Rules and instructions on working with Information and Communication Technologies

Aim: To improve understanding of the importance of following rules and instructions on working with ICT for the success in the labour market by analysing your behaviour in ICT environment and its possible consequences. 

Description: All computer and internet applications usually have the written user manuals or user guides intended to give assistance to people using a particular application. Such user guides contain screenshots of the human-machine interface(s), and hardware manuals with clear, simplified diagrams. The language of user guides is matched to the intended audience, with all the jargon explained thoroughly. Also over the period of time the unwritten rules on working with ICT based on the experience of many people in using the ICT has originated. These instructions circulate among the wide audience of ICT users via Internet and could be found using the Internet search engines. In order to be successful ICT user, which is the key requirement in many job positions, every person has to understand that following written and unwritten rules and instructions is very important factor. Thus you could demonstrate quick reaction in ICT-related situations at workplace and be accepted as an effective employee by your employer.
This exercise will help you to understand how following the rules and instructions on working with ICT could be beneficial or harmful for you depending on your behaviour in using ICT.

Learning outcomes: Completing this exercise will enable you to:

  • Understand the importance of following rules and instructions on working with Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for being successful at workplace;
  • Understand that following rules and instructions is essential in using the ICT properly.
