Aim: To deepen knowledge how to do your job well when you are acting under pressure.

Description: The pace of life is fast and we have a lot of work to do to be successful. If you want to be successful in your career, it is important to have targets. In order to reach them you have to be result-oriented, be able to stay on task and to be able to function well under pressure.
How many times have you been sitting at your desk and trying to focus, but despite your best intentions, you just can't concentrate because of interference or stress. We've all been in this familiar, frustrating situation, and it's something that can really undermine your performance. People who can concentrate and function well under pressure will do better in education, work, and life. You might think they’re just the lucky ones. However, the truth is that we can all learn to concentrate.
It is important to know how to function well under pressure, how to prioritise the tasks and undertake the task from the start till it’s finished. You can face stressful situations that require you to work under pressure on a daily basis and thus you have to learn to manage stress.
If you aren’t sure what working under pressure means, see some examples:

  • As a baker, you must bake three times bigger amount of bread than usual between 4 am. and 6 am;
  • As a postman you must deliver 10 times more packages during the Christmas period than before;
  • As a secretary you must do a presentation for your employer within the next hour.

Learning outcomes: Completing this exercise will enable you to:

  • Improve your understanding how to act under pressure;
  • Improve your ability to prioritise tasks.

Expected duration: 15 minutes.

Please read the situation and choose the correct answer!
