Self-learning as a way to better employment situation

Theme: Learning to learn. My soft skills needed to organise my life-long learning.

Developed by: CESIE, Italy.

Aim: To be aware about personal capacities (skills, abilities, knowledge) aiming a faster integration into the labour market.

Description: In a global economy working conditions are changing fast, this is why your personal adaptability to reflect on the needs of the labour market is important. When you get a job, you will face some difficulties in achieving some goals and tasks, as you do not have enough skills and knowledge to complete them properly. However, you should be aware that you could undertake learning in order to gain new skills and /or to improve/ update skills, and it will help you to carry out your responsibilities productively. This positive way of thinking about the real value of life-long learning will help you to understand that lacking some knowledge is just a new challenge to you, and even encourage your personal and professional growth if you organise your learning in the right way.
This exercise will also help you to organise the self-monitoring of the skills and competences you already have and how they could be useful in different work situations. The ability to fulfil self-monitoring will also help you to realise your further learning needs in order to deepen the knowledge and skills needed to reach your planned goal in the labour market.
After completing the exercise it is recommended to meet a facilitator and plan further learning steps.

Learning outcomes: Completing this exercise will enable you to:

  • Reflect about the necessity to organise your life-long learning in order to solve different work situations;
  • Plan your further learning with the aim of finding  a job that is suitable for you.

Expected duration: 15 minutes.
