Aim: To develop the level of your soft skills needed to form the team.
Description: When building an effective team it is vital to start with the right workers and to put them together in the right way. A team cannot thrive without its members all having the roles and responsibilities that suit them the best.
When teams are formed, it is normal for people to take different roles according to their position, ability or character type. Formal roles are the external, defined positions that are associated with given responsibilities and are usually allocated according to the position or ability of each person. This exercise is based on the Belbin Team Roles Model. The word ‘role’ is used in this context to describe how people behave, contribute and relate with others, in other words it is attempt to categorise personality types so that strengths could be identified and recognised amongst the group members.
It is important to have the capacity to work together with different people either when building a team or acting as a team player. By completing this exercise, you will deepen your knowledge about informal roles in a team and develop your capacity to recognise the abilities of others and to work together with different people.
Learning outcomes: After completing this exercise you will:
- Be able to recognise and identify abilities of others by knowing about team roles and their relation to personal features.
- Improve your capacity to work with different people.
Expected duration: 20 minutes.
