Aim: The aim of this exercise is to develop a soft skill which could help you to be flexible and adaptable in different work situations.
Description: When we start in a new job or in a new team, we are afraid, because it is a new situation with new rules and new colleagues. We all react and behave in our own way in different situations when we interact with other people, especially working in a team. Being an adaptable and flexible person you are more successful in a lot of work situations.
Adaptability means being flexible when things change. An adaptable person is one who is open to new ideas and concepts, to working independently or as part of a team, and to carrying out multiple tasks or projects. Someone is regarded as adaptable if they are able to manage multiple assignments and tasks, set priorities, and adapt to changing conditions and/or work assignments.
Flexibility is the ability to adapt to different people and circumstances, and handle unforeseen events with grace. It’s a valuable trait in any employee and an essential quality in certain occupations and industries, so be sure you can demonstrate it not only during a job interview to your interviewer but in different work situations as well.
People who are flexible are open to change and are able to adapt and adjust continuously to changing circumstances.
Flexibility is extremely important for negotiating and communicating. The ability to acknowledge another’s point of view, and perhaps modify one’s own accordingly, is essential for effective teamwork.
In the following exercise you will learn how to improve or manage your skills of flexibility and adaptability in different work situations.
Learning outcomes: Completion of this exercise will allow you to:
- The ability to change (or be changed) to fit changed circumstances.
