Work-life balance as a way to wellbeing

Theme: Social and civic. My soft skills related to understanding of gender equality and diversity at workplaces.

Developed by: Social Innovation Fund, Lithuania, Vidzeme regional Vocational competences centre, Latvia

Aim: To deepen your knowledge about the measures of work-life balance in the workplace.

Description: The work-life balance is a concept ensuring proper prioritising between "work" (employment and career), responsibilities for family issues (including child and elderly care), and leisure (health and well-being).
Having this skill will help you increase your capacity (as an employee or an entrepreneur) to manage your work-life balance and as a result, to remain active in the labour market.
The problem of work-life balance is still faced by many families and often results in withdrawal of one of family members from the labour market. It is important to know about the possibility and the necessity of a bottom-up approach encouraging the involvement of employees themselves in implementing family-friendly initiatives within their workplaces. This could help you juggle multiple responsibilities at home and work without guilt or regret.

Learning outcomes: Completing this exercise will enable you to:

  • Deepen your knowledge about the measures of work-life balance in workplace;
  • Improve your understanding about the benefits that companies have implementing work-life practices;/about the benefit for an organisation to promote the reconciliation of work and family/private life at workplaces;
  • To be able to consider the possibility to discuss the work-life balance problems with your employer.

Expected duration: 15 minutes.
