Aim: The main aims of this exercise are:
- To deepen your knowledge about ability to seek advice and support;
- Develop your ability to seek advice and support in order to improve your employability situation.
Description: Most people associate learning with formal education at school, college, university etc. Generally speaking it is true that a formal education and the resulting qualifications are important. Education may maximise our potential to find better, more satisfying jobs, earn more and, perhaps, become more successful in our chosen career. However, being educated in the past is not enough to get employment. Employers are looking for well-balanced people with the ability to learn and develop their knowledge and skills throughout their working life as a rapidly changing labour market requires constant development of new skills. How to effectively update skills? Do you know how to do it? Do you know the training organisations who could best help you? It is quite difficult to plan your learning without getting some advice and support from your colleagues, tutors or even your employer. That is why it is advisable not to be hesitant to ask for guidance in arranging the best learning plan for you. However it requires self-motivation and positivity about the benefits of arranging your learning. Effective lifelong learning could be arranged in very different ways and could be easily integrated in your life; you could acquire information through reading, listening, observing, gaining work experience and though organised learning at the training centres. Information is all around you: you just have to acquire relevant and meaningful information and develop this into knowledge and skills. Whatever your age is, it's never too late to learn. Within your learning process, it is important to understand the importance of seeking guidance, advice or support if it is necessary. This exercise is about the skill, which helps you to organise effectively your lifelong learning for personal and professional development, and which plays a crucial role in improving your employability.
Learning outcomes: Completing this exercise will enable you to:
- understand about the importance of being guided within your learning process;
- formulate the right questions to appropriate people in order to get the right direction to learn;
- realise the importance of seeking advice, information and support in a certain work situation and not to be shy to ask questions when they arise.
Expected duration: 20 minutes.
